Ready made tool racks are available to buy, but you can easily make your own, using timber bought from a local DIY store.
To start with, measure the width of your shed and select the length of timber you need. Think about the height of your shed and the length of your tools – as they'll be hanging from the rack you'll need to make sure you give them enough space.

Save money and create your own tool rack for the garden shed with help from our guide.
You Will Need
- Timber (thick lengths)
- Drill
- Saw
- Spirit level
- Screws
- Hooks
- Clips
Step 1
Use a spirit level to ensure accuracy, then fix your timber pieces across the width of the shed with screws.
Step 2
Choose hooks and clips to suit your tools and fix them to the rack. Most will screw directly into the wood, so drill a thin guide hole first. Meat hooks can be placed over timber frame, and some tools can hang directly from it.
Step 3
Some tools can be hung by their handles, so the hooks need to be fixed high enough to provide enough space for the tools.
Step 4
Other tools – such as garden rakes – can rest on the floor, with their handle, or shaft clipped into a fixing.
Lightweight equipment can also be suspended out of the way. Storage boxes – plastic or wooden – can be stacked to make the most of the space.
